About Us
Brief History
In 1895, Brother J.M. Lawhorn and a fellowship of Christians from the Burke Baptist Church came to Gunter and organized a church on the old Gunter Ranch.  The school house, located on the ranch property, provided a place for preaching and teaching.  In 1914, Gunter Missionary Baptist Church, with 101 members, moved into Gunter.  In 1918, a tornado did considerable damage to this first structure and it was decided to buy property and build a new sanctuary.  This was accomplished in the fall of 1919.  In January, 1970, it was voted to change the name to: First Baptist Church.  Over the years, the Lord has blessed us in many ways.  new additions and imporvements have been made to the buiding as the church has continued to grow in numbers.  The future is a challenge that can only be met with the wisdom of the Lord and the prayers and support of a loving people of God.  We welcome you to come and grow with us here at First Baptist Church Gunter.
What we believe....
  • We believe the Bible is God's inerrant and inspired Word.
  • We believe that God is Trinity; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • We believe in the virgin birth of Jesus Christ.
  • We believe in the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, shed at Calvary's Cross.
  • We believe in the Second Advent of our Savior.
  • We believe in the reality of Heaven and Hell.
  • We believe that Jesus Christ established the Church and that he is the Head of the Church.
  • We believe the Church is a body of born-again, immersed believers banded together for the purpose of propagating the gospel locally and around the world; the ordinances of the church are Baptism and the Lord's Supper; the officers of the church are the Pastor and Deacons.
  • We believe the Christian must separate himself from elements of worldliness.
  • We believe in the giving of tithes and offerings to God's work through our church.
